What to Expect at Our Weekly Worship Gatherings

Y’all, one of my favorite parts of being involved with the Baptist Student Union is our Monday night worship and teaching times. I look forward to it each week—singing and studying Scripture together truly energizes my soul!

Now whether you’re new to campus or have been around awhile, I wanted to give you the inside scoop on the heart behind our worship gatherings and what you can expect if you join us. I hope that these evenings can encourage your walk with Jesus along the way.

When and Where We Meet Up

Currently, we gather every Monday night from 7 to 8:30 pm in the Student Union Auditorium (right by the main quad). Can’t make it till later? No problem! Come whenever you can. You’ll receive a warm welcome whenever you join in. We try to kick off promptly though and wrap up right on time out of respect for all the other commitments pulling at busy college students!

What Our Time Together Looks Like

After chatting over some snacks, we transition into a more focused time of worship through music and teaching from God’s word. Here’s some insight into the flow:

Music to Lift Our Hearts

I just love soaking in scripture put to music—it takes the message straight to the heart! Typically we’ll sing 3-5 songs together. Usually at least one classic hymn and some contemporary worship tunes are led by our student praise band. But we also try to mix up genres and introduce new impactful songs as well.

We want this to be a place where voices unite in authentically worshipping Jesus through song. So c’mon and sing your heart out with us! Or just soak it in. You do you.

Teaching to Feed Our Souls

Next, we take time to dig deeper into Scripture together. Our campus minister Bonedes typically preaches verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter through various books of the Bible. This approach helps keep us grounded in understanding texts in context. Recently, we’ve been making our way through the gospel of Matthew.

The messages are always gospel-centered and applicable to college life. Bonedes makes the biblical concepts feel accessible and relevant to all students. The goal is for God’s living word to transform not just our minds, but our whole lifestyles. I always walk away challenged and encouraged!

Fellowship to Build Community

Finally, we close out our evening hanging out and getting to know one another better. Building a caring community across campus is huge for us. So take this time to grab a snack, play some ping pong, or just make a new friend.

And be sure to grab our weekly email newsletter or connect with us on social media to stay up to date on additional fellowship events, service projects, and small groups kicking off throughout the semester!

We’d Love to Have You Join Us!

That gives you the gist of what to expect from our Monday night gatherings. Nothing fancy, just a group of students aiming to exalt Jesus through authentic worship and biblical community. We’d love for y’all to take part too! Just come as you are, whether you’re seeking or confident, churched or unchurched. All are welcome here.

If you have any other questions or want to connect beforehand, please do reach out or find one of our student leaders on campus. Hope to see your faces bright and early this upcoming Monday!
